As we move toward the final preparations for a safe and successful DesignCon 2021 in-person event, we wanted to share some updates and reminders with our exhibitors and sponsors.
In 2021, pre-registration indicates that attendance will be lighter at DesignCon. However, DesignCon took steps to mitigate this over the course of its registration process, including increased marketing, additional partnerships, and continued communication with attendee prospects. We estimate a 14:1 attendee:exhibitor ratio in 2021, with high-quality attendees from companies like Apple, Amazon, Cisco, Intel, and Oracle.
Beginning in 2021, Informa Markets will utilize digital badges as we move toward events that are more efficient, sustainable, and data driven. Doing so allows attendees quicker and easier access to the expo floor using a mobile phone, just as we are used to for airline boarding passes. Scanning a digital badge is a similar process to paper badges: Open the lead retrieval app and use your phone or iPad to scan the attendee’s QR code on their phone screen. Attendees and exhibitors will have the option of additionally printing out a name tag. To do so, visit the Aventri printing station on the expo floor near the Exhibitor Suite. Those attendees or exhibitors who do not have a smart phone will be able to pick up paper credentials at Registration in room 220B at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center. Informa Markets North American events are shifting to a per pound model for material handling. The model put forth by our Official Services Contractor offers more transparency to the client for budgeting. While Informa sees no benefit in this change, any exhibitor who uses GES Shipping (called GES Logistics) round trip will receive a 10% material handling discount on that shipment.
In appreciation of your support and in recognition of the exhibitor community, DesignCon will offer its exhibitors a welcome breakfast, providing you the opportunity to re-connect with fellow exhibitors and friends ahead of the expo floor opening. Mark your calendars for Tuesday, August 17, 9-10:30am, and join us in Hall 1 to fuel up before the doors open. Other concessions will be available throughout the week for exhibitors to purchase. Please note that the San Jose McEnery Convention Center is a cashless venue, only accepting credit cards or e-payment at concession stands.
In further appreciation of your support, all exhibitor badges in 2021 will provide full access to DesignCon conference education. This includes all boot camps, tutorials, panels, technical sessions, and keynotes. This does not include conference networking lunches and is for 2021 only.
DesignCon is following the All Secure guidelines and continues to prioritize the health and safety of all guests by adhering to CDC and local government guidance. Effective August 2, 2021, Santa Clara County has imposed a face covering/mask mandate for all individuals, both vaccinated and unvaccinated. As a result, face coverings/masks will be required at DesignCon. Face masks will be available onsite for all guests if they do not have their own. As needs around Health & Safety evolve, this DesignCon.com page will be updated to reflect current requirements. We appreciate your patience as we adapt our policies to meet expert guidance and keep our visitors, partners, and staff safe.
Mark your calendars for DesignCon Digital, a virtual event complimenting DesignCon’s in-person event and offering a global audience, October 5-6, 2021. And note DesignCon 2022 will return to the Santa Clara Convention Center, April 5-7. We expect to move back to traditional January dates in 2023.
