2013 Speaker Center

Welcome to the DesignCon Speaker Center! We are thrilled you will be speaking at our 2013 event. The Conference will be held Monday, January 28 - Thursday, January 31 at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, California.

This Speaker Center is designed to help you prepare for an exciting week of presenting, learning, and sharing ideas. It covers general information associated with being a speaker at the event. We are looking forward to seeing you in January!

Your Role as a Speaker

As a speaker at DesignCon 2013, it is your responsibility to submit an electronic version of both your class notes/slide presentation and a technical white paper (1,500 word minimum). Both will be posted to the Proceedings website for registered attendees to download prior to the conference. Please do not send hardcopies of these materials. These notes should be submitted electronically, directions below.

Important Deadlines

Signed Speaker Agreement: Due Immediately

We require all DesignCon speakers to sign and return a speaker agreement. This agreement confirms your intent to speak at the event, and gives the DesignCon Conference the right to post your contributions to the online conference proceedings while you maintain your right to use your work elsewhere.

Please submit your agreement to no later than Friday, November 2. If you do not sign it, you may be asked to step down from your speaking engagement with DesignCon.

Technical Paper (not required for tutorials or panels): Due Monday, November 19, 2012

Please refer to the Technical Paper Templates, including proper naming of files. We ask that all speakers use the DesignCon 2013 Technical Paper Template to provide consistency throughout the event. Those speakers who fail to provide the proceedings materials by the deadline may not be considered for the Best Paper Award. Templates and instructions to submit proceedings are below.

Presentation Slides: Due Friday, January 4, 2013

Please refer to the Presentation Slide Template and Submission instructions, including proper naming of files. Those speakers who fail to provide the proceedings materials may not be considered as future speakers for the DesignCon Conference. Directions to submit proceedings are below.

Audio Visual

Each of the conference session rooms will include the following:

  • 1 wired lavalier microphone
  • 2 tabletop microphones
  • 1 LCD projector with VGA cable
  • Screen

Note: Speakers will be responsible for providing their own laptop, presentation slides, and slide progression.

Evaluations

Mobile evaluations have arrived! Evaluations will be sent by email to attendees for each conference session they attend 15 minutes before the session concludes. They will be able to complete the evaluation on their phones or opt to complete later when they have access to their computers. Response rates have improved at sister conferences with the advent of mobile evaluations, and it helps DesignCon be green by reducing paper waste.

Evaluations are comprised of the following questions, rated on a scale of: Excellent, Good, Fair and Poor.

  1. Overall Session Rating
  2. Technical Quality of Session
  3. Organization of the Session
  4. Speaker Rating (for each presenter)

Registration

As a speaker, you are entitled to a complimentary conference pass. We ask that you complete the quick registration process online. There is a dedicated link that was included in your speaker kit. Once on-site, proceed to Speaker Registration which is located in the second floor of the Santa Clara Convention Center.

Speaker Benefits

Trade/Business Publications; Online/News Services

Reporters from industry trade publications, newspapers and wire services must provide a sample of an article published within the past six months that clearly displays authorship.

Complimentary Registration

As a speaker, you receive complimentary registration to DesignCon 2013. There is no need to register for specific classes, as you will be given a badge providing you access to all the classes and all of the special events, including the keynotes.

Speaker Reception

You will receive an invite to our special Speaker Reception taking place the week of DesignCon. Enjoy beverages, light snacks, and a chance to network with your fellow speakers.

Access to the Speaker Ready Room

The Speaker Ready Room will be available for your use during the week of the conference. You will have space to prepare for your sessions, relax and network.
