GSA’s IP and EDA/design interest groups are collaborating to bring a dynamic panel discussion focused on the positive shifts in an emerging economic model, injecting fresh ideas that demonstrate how a mix of disciplines can lead to successful collaboration and cooperation in a worldwide supply-chain–based economy. As the backbone of innovation, this panel will help small to mid-size companies identify tools, resources, and methodologies to adopt a new paradigm and ultimately take advantage of opportunities to have the biggest impact on the industry.
Intellectual Property – Fraud Protection

Outsourcing and globalization have numerous benefits, but there is a downside: the proliferation of counterfeits and sales through unauthorized channels. In 2006 U.S. Customs recorded more than 15 billion IC imports. With one out of 10 IT products containing counterfeits, according to a study by AGMA and KPMG, 1.5 billion imported ICs are likely counterfeit. Unfortunately, most semiconductor manufacturers don’t realize the extent of their revenue loss to counterfeits. Company and product reputations are being eroded, and legitimate channel partners are being lost. This discussion demonstrates the impact counterfeits have on semiconductor companies and provides information on how to find and stop unauthorized sales.
Be a solutions driver! GSA is conducting a supply chain ecosystem survey that will highlight the obstacles companies are facing in the semiconductor industry. Your feedback is important to us.
Take action and tell us which topics you feel are most important and need the most improvement:
- EDA/Design
- IP
- Wafer Manufacturing
- Packaging
- Test
The Global Semiconductor Alliance (GSA) mission is to accelerate the growth and increase the return on invested capital of the global semiconductor industry by fostering a more effective fabless ecosystem through collaboration, integration, and innovation. It addresses the challenges within the supply chain, including IP, EDA/design, wafer manufacturing, test, and packaging to enable industry-wide solutions. Providing a platform for meaningful global collaboration, the Alliance identifies and articulates market opportunities, encourages and supports entrepreneurship, and provides members with comprehensive and unique market intelligence. Members include companies throughout the supply chain representing 25 countries across the globe. You can visit the GSA site here.
