Embracing a New Paradigm: EDA Tools and IP as Solutions Enablers
Tuesday, February 3 | 10:15 am – 11:45 am

Bill Martin Bill Martin
IP Interest Group Chair, Global Semiconductor Alliance (GSA)
General Manager, Verification IP
Mentor Graphics

GSA’s IP and EDA/design interest groups are collaborating to bring a dynamic panel discussion focused on the positive shifts in an emerging economic model, injecting fresh ideas that demonstrate how a mix of disciplines can lead to successful collaboration and cooperation in a worldwide supply-chain–based economy. As the backbone of innovation, this panel will help small to mid-size companies identify tools, resources, and methodologies to adopt a new paradigm and ultimately take advantage of opportunities to have the biggest impact on the industry.

Intellectual Property – Fraud Protection
Tuesday, February 3 | 10:15 am – 10:55 am

Chris Jensen, Vice President, Marketing, New Momentum
Raminderpal Singh, Senior Technical Staff Member, 300 mm Semiconductor Fab Systems and Technology Group, IBM

Outsourcing and globalization have numerous benefits, but there is a downside: the proliferation of counterfeits and sales through unauthorized channels. In 2006 U.S. Customs recorded more than 15 billion IC imports. With one out of 10 IT products containing counterfeits, according to a study by AGMA and KPMG, 1.5 billion imported ICs are likely counterfeit. Unfortunately, most semiconductor manufacturers don’t realize the extent of their revenue loss to counterfeits. Company and product reputations are being eroded, and legitimate channel partners are being lost. This discussion demonstrates the impact counterfeits have on semiconductor companies and provides information on how to find and stop unauthorized sales.
