We present here the fundamental issues that can create measurement errors in the misapplication of mixed-mode and multiport S-parameter measurements. We provide examples of errors in S that can result for board-level interconnections, the manifestation of these errors in simulations of time domain waveforms, and our guidelines for avoiding mixed-mode S-parameter errors.
