The industrial, commercial OEM is pressured with an ever-growing wish list of product features and constrained by limited resources with which to deliver them. Project decisions often consider outsourcing as a tool to get to market faster. This paper and its associated calculation program will show how to evaluate costs spanning design, introduction, manufacturing and maintenance, and EOL, hence the DIME mnemonic. Best- and worst-case estimates for each option are made, and IRR is calculated for various risk scenarios.
