A Reference Design for FPGA-Based Linux Applications
John Kerl, Design Engineer, Avent Design Services
The design uses a Xilinx Virtex-2Pro FPGA-based evaluation kit to implement a simple Web-server application. Web pages are transmitted over Ethernet to the FPGA and are displayed on a monitor. The paper will describe several of the important design considerations when implementing Linux on a Xilinx Virtex-2Pro FPGA. These considerations include the use of on-chip and off-chip memory, TCP/IP Ethernet implementation using a MAC IP Core, and the use of standard peripherals.
